An Overlooked Crisis I’ve Lived and Researched

This solution is not just based on academic research; it is profoundly shaped by lived experience. After 25 years in long-term care leadership, caring for my own mother through Alzheimer’s and seizures, and my DHSc dissertation research into dementia-related seizure management, I repeatedly saw the same critical gap: staff were not consistently trained or equipped to recognize and respond to seizures in residents with cognitive decline. This realization fueled the creation of SeizureSafe™, my vision for an integrated seizure risk management ecosystem designed to provide care teams with clear protocols, practical tools, and a flexible system that can be implemented efficiently, even in busy care environments.

How do Seagull Health’s Advisory Services relate to the SeizureSafe Hub?

The SeizureSafe Hub is our comprehensive digital platform, providing your team with essential tools, training modules, and data-tracking capabilities. Our Advisory Services offer additional direct expert support, including on-site or virtual consultations, custom protocol development, advanced training, and strategic guidance to help you fully integrate and optimize seizure management best practices within your unique operational environment.

What type of facilities is this designed for?

SeizureSafe is built as a flexible risk management ecosystem, designed to support any care setting that serves individuals with dementia. This spans from:

  • Small, independent Assisted Living (ALFs) and Memory Care communities (MCs)
  • Mid-size and multi-site operations, including Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs)
  • Large regional and corporate senior living groups, including Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) and Independent Living (IL) campuses.

Our platform includes setting-specific guidance and scalable solutions to help organizations align implementation with their unique regulatory and operational requirements.

How do my staff access the training?

Staff access the SeizureSafe platform through secure login credentials, providing them with role-specific microlearning modules, protocols, and tools. These modules are intentionally short and practical, designed to integrate seamlessly into real-world shift workflows without requiring special software, only an internet connection. The platform also includes comprehensive completion tracking tools and documentation resources, which are invaluable for HR records and for demonstrating staff education during surveys or audits.

How long does implementation take?

Most facilities can implement SeizureSafe within two to three weeks. The microlearning modules are short, the tools are ready to use, and the system is designed for efficient rollout with minimal disruption to daily operations. Optional onboarding support is available to help your team get up to speed quickly and ensure a smooth transition.

How do we manage this with turnover or agency staff?

SeizureSafe is specifically designed for ongoing use with both new hires and existing staff. Your organization maintains continuous access to the platform’s microlearning modules, printable tools, and documentation resources. Many facilities successfully incorporate SeizureSafe into their onboarding processes and regular in-service workflows to maintain consistency and preparedness across their teams, even during periods of staffing changes or when working with agency personnel.

Is this program survey-ready? Will it help us during inspections?

Yes. SeizureSafe is designed with strong compliance and quality assurance in mind, directly supporting your survey readiness. Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) receive CMS F-tag alignment guidance (such as F684 and F699) to support their survey preparation. Assisted Living (ALFs) and Memory Care settings receive guidance specifically tailored to state-specific incident reporting and documentation requirements. The platform’s comprehensive training, practical tools, and robust documentation framework collectively strengthen both your risk management protocols and overall regulatory readiness.

How does this program reduce liability or financial exposure?

SeizureSafe addresses one of the most underrecognized and high-risk factors in dementia care: silent or misidentified seizures. These events often contribute to costly falls, unplanned hospital transfers, and avoidable regulatory deficiencies. By proactively equipping care teams with practical training, clear protocols, and standardized documentation tools, SeizureSafe™ helps significantly reduce the risk of survey citations, minimize family complaints, and limit litigation exposure – all without adding unnecessary complexity to daily operations.

Is this a one-time purchase or a subscription?

SeizureSafe™ Hub is offered as a flexible, facility-level annual subscription. This ensures continuous access to updated content, tools, and resources, supporting ongoing staff readiness and compliance. This model moves beyond a one-time purchase to provide sustained value and support for your organization’s risk management efforts.

Do you offer volume discounts or multi-site pricing?

Yes. SeizureSafe offers custom multi-site licensing options for organizations looking to implement the platform across multiple facilities. Please contact us to discuss your organization’s specific needs, and we will structure a tailored package that fits your scale and goals.

Can I use this in both my SNF and ALF settings?

Yes, absolutely. SeizureSafe is specifically designed to support both SNF and ALF care environments, including dedicated memory care units, whether they are standalone or on a shared campus. Our platform provides setting-specific guidance to help teams implement the system effectively across different care levels and regulatory requirements. For organizations with multiple facilities or campuses, access, and support are structured to ensure each site receives appropriate onboarding, tracking, and implementation resources.

Does this count toward our state or federal training requirements?

While SeizureSafe is not a state-mandated CEU program, it significantly strengthens your organization’s compliance and survey readiness by demonstrating proactive risk mitigation and condition-specific staff training. For skilled nursing facilities, our documentation tools and F-tag alignment guidance directly support your Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement (QAPI) process and overall resident safety efforts. For assisted living and memory care settings, the platform enhances incident investigation, response training, and precise change-of-condition documentation. It’s a comprehensive approach designed to align with regulatory expectations.

Is this a seizure training program or a complete management system?

SeizureSafe is designed as a foundational risk management ecosystem, not merely a training program. It combines specialized training, practical tools, clear protocols, and data capture capabilities comprehensively. Advanced features such as analytics, dashboards, predictive insights, and integrations are part of the planned development roadmap, ensuring the system will continue to expand and evolve alongside partner organizations.

What makes this different from general dementia or fall prevention training?

SeizureSafe is purpose-built to address seizure risk in dementia care, a critical area often overlooked in general dementia or fall prevention programs. While most training briefly mentions seizures, SeizureSafe provides a dedicated system to improve recognition, response, documentation, and comprehensive risk management. It is grounded in operational experience, clinical research, and real-world caregiving insight, filling a crucial gap that most standard training programs do not cover.

What support is included after purchase?

SeizureSafe includes optional onboarding support to guide your team through implementation after purchase. Our ongoing support provides direct access to the Seagull Health team for any questions, technical assistance, and feedback. We are focused on helping your organization achieve measurable results and continuously improve your risk management practices beyond simply providing access to content.

Who created SeizureSafe Essentials?

SeizureSafe was developed by Russ Barker, founder of Seagull Health, following 25 years of experience as a long-term care administrator and through his doctoral research into seizure management in dementia care. Russ was also a family caregiver for his mother, who experienced seizures during her Alzheimer’s journey. SeizureSafe™ combines operational practicality, clinical insight, and real-world caregiving experience to address a critical and underrecognized risk in dementia care.

SeizureSafe is designed as a comprehensive system to strengthen staff training, documentation, and risk management practices, ultimately supporting survey readiness and continuous quality improvement efforts. While it significantly enhances your facility’s capabilities, it does not guarantee specific outcomes such as avoiding deficiencies, reducing falls, or preventing emergency transfers. Any potential savings or cost estimates referenced are based on broader industry data, for example, $1,000 to $15,000 per deficiency, depending on facility type, and $13,000 to $15,000 per fall or transfer. Actual results will vary depending on facility-specific circumstances and the effectiveness of implementation.

SeizureSafe subscriptions can be canceled at any time to avoid renewal charges. To request a cancellation or refund on the initial payment, email support@seagullhealth.global within 30 days of purchase with your order details and reason for the request.
